The trip

Waterfall Lodge is located in the Waterberg mountains in the Limpopo Province a mere 3½ hours drive from the airport in Johannesburg.

The lodge is situated at the foot of a dramatic rock formation, where a small stream has cut through the rock and created an idyllic lake area, home to a vast and varied bird and wildlife. In the early morning, several antelopes visit the area to drink. The quality is top-notch, nothing is left unattended. You will find a luxurious lodge, built by a Danish entrepreneur in prime African style, with care for every detail, merging the African feel with an evocative safari environment.

Our expert professional hunter and PH Dirk Hurter has vast experience with hunting safaris in the south of Africa. Dirk is specialised in hunting the plains game; the collective name for zebra, wart hog and all antelope species. Dirk is also a very competent and experienced arch hunter. We offer two strategically placed "blinds" for our arch hunters very close to the lodge. Dirk has groomed a solid base of local PHes, who know the hunting preserves, game habits and who are all good at satisfying our guests hunting desires and needs.

The surroundings offer amazing opportunities for both hunters and companions, i.e. photo safari, national parks, predator centre, elephant safari, horseback safari, golfing, fishing, sailing, visiting close-by cities, shopping, etc.

At the lodge, it is possible to combine rifle hunting with bird hunting at Motswedi Safaris. Begin your hunting safari with at couple of days bird hunting passage hunting thousands of pigeons, francolines and guinea fowl.

The main building is open plane with a kitchen, large dining room, television and a small bar. Sliding doors open up to a roofed porch with a barbecue. Most of the main meals are served at the rustic ”master table” on the deck with a pleasant view of lake and pool – you will enjoy relaxing with a cool drink here!

In a separate section below the deck is a nice little pool area with a pool and a small jacuzzi-like pool for small children. Ideal for sunbathing or studying the bountiful bird life. Or just to enjoy a cool refreshment or after a long day hunting.

We have built a wooden terrace on a small island in the middle of the lake; it is attached to the lodge by a walkway. Relax in our lounge furniture and enjoy the fabulous 360 degree view of the entire Waterfall Lodge.

Your daily meals, including snacks and ALL beverages are of course included in your price for the All Inclusive Tour. Beverages are readily available during the day, and South African wine is served at dinner time. Soft drinks, beer and wine as well as alcoholic beverages such as gin, whisky, brandy and amarula, the South African version of Bailey are served here.

Naturally, we offer free laundry during your stay at Waterfall Lodge. Drop your laundry in the baskets in the bedrooms, and you get the fresh, clean laundry back, ironed and folded, within 24 hours.

Luxury villas
Our luxury villas are built out into the lake and therefore boast an amazing view from the private terraces. Each villa is furnished with a large living room with a sofa area, television and double bed. A separate bedroom with two large beds, that can be replaced with bunk beds for the large family, if desired. Furthermore, these villas have a small kitchenette with a fridge and a very large private toilet and bathroom with a shower and tub. Naturally, our villas are equipped with airconditioning/heating depending on the season. The villas are perfect for self-catering, if you wish.

Our chalets have partial or complete lake view from the private porch. The chalets are furnished with a large bedroom with two large twin beds and plenty of storage space. It is possible to install a cot, if desired. The chalets are equipped with a fridge, television and kettle as well as air conditioning and heating. Nice separate bathrooms with shower and toilet. Our chalets have access to a cosy and rustic African outdoors kitchen – called a ”lapa”. An open fireplace, barbecue and dining area below an idyllic thatched roof appeal to our self-catering guests.

Tent camp
Our tent camp is well hidden in the "bush" in the middle of our hunting preserves and placed on a hillside offering a fine view. We have established a rustic and primitive tent camp for those of our guests, who wish to be "in the thick of things". Each of our tents is equipped with two camp beds, and the camp has running water, a humble toilet and an outdoor kitchen. Every night, the camp is visited by the resident fauna. If you live in a villa or chalet and wish to experience nature up close for a single night, this can be arranged. Is also available as an option in our offer of self-catering.
